The Story of Rubbish (Young Reading (Series 2)): 1

by Katie Daynes (Author), Uwe Mayer (Illustrator)

Synopsis

This is a new edition to the classic title in "Young Reading Series Two", which is aimed at children whose reading ability and confidence allows them to tackle longer and more complex stories. It smells horrible and look disgusting, but rubbish hasn't always been a problem. Some of it can even be useful. You can squelch through its intriguing story, past ancient animal droppings, stinking sewers and dirty nappies. It is developed in consultation with Alison Kelly, who is a senior lecturer in education and an early reading specialist from Roehampton University.

It makes a good introduction to the subject and wider environmental issues' - ecozine; 'Irresistible for children learning to read' - Child Education Plus; 'The Usborne Young Reading Program has a lovely selection of classic tales adapted for younger readers.
