The Lonely Giant

The Lonely Giant

by Sophie Ambrose (Illustrator)

Synopsis

A heart-warming story about a giant who, after destroying his forest home, must learn the true value of the natural world. A modern fable, The Lonely Giant is a story of conserving the environment, friendship and freedom. The forest giant likes nothing better than smashing, bashing and pulling up trees. But when all the animals run away in fear, the giant finds himself so very sad and lonely. How he misses the crackling warmth of a fire; how he misses the sweet, melodious songs of the birds! Can the lonely giant find a way to bring back the woodland bloom, and even make some friends? Beautifully illustrated, this is a tender, poignant tale of learning to nurture, value and respect the natural world.

Media Reviews
Featuring page after page of beautiful illustrations, [...] The Lonely Giant is a charming tale about the value of friendship - but it features a strong message about the importance of protecting the environment. * Fulham Chronicle *
With their serene and gentle colours, the illustrations of The Lonely Giant are full of detail and interest. The picture of the giant sadly sipping tea out of a tiny cup is the sadness many feel as they see what they love most destroyed. The final double page illustration of the new forest is full of warmth and colour, with lots to look at, like the baby fox cub amazed by the spider! Told in the clear language of a fairy tale, this book is sure to bring any child to a lively sense of how our beautiful and precious world must be cared for. * Armadillo *
Sophie Ambrose is a highly talented newcomer to the picture book scene with this her debut book; it's absolutely beautiful and its vital themes of respecting the environment, freedom and friendship have much to say to everyone small and large, both individuals and organisations.
