Media Reviews
This is the most beautiful picturebook ... The text has humour, but the softly lit illustrations are glorious ... The ethos of the book is as gentle as its images: animals work together, are hospitable and polite, honour promises, share chores and settle quietly and cosily a night. Reading A House in the Woods makes you want to live there. -- Nicolette Jones * The Sunday Times *
A House in the Woods is a stunningly illustrated children's book... This charming story is perfectly brought to life by Inga Moore's beautiful illustrations in browns, oranges and greens, which make this book a must-have for autumn. She has previously illustrated for The Wind in the Willows and The Secret Garden, and her distinctive and atmospheric pictures will make A House in the Woods a permanent fixture on children's shelves. -- Stacey Bartlett * We Love This Book website *
Dedicated to beavers, who are the fastest and the best builders in the world, this book is set in an atmospheric woodland world . . . A simple tale brought to life in stunningly detailed pictures to return to time and time again. * Carousel *
Words are really just a distraction in Inga Moore's fabulous A House in the Woods ... All you want to do is drink in the detail of Moore's unparalleled artistry: the dappled light of the forest, the expressive posture of the animals. Children will spend hours poring over it - but they're not having my copy. -- Dinah Hall * The Sunday Telegraph *
a beautiful book ... lavishly imagined ... hilarious ... will captivate parents and children alike -- Kate Kellaway * Observer *
Moore's own witty text, will make you fall in love with autumn. The images are glorious: deep rural scenes show orange leaves and reflected light on water, misty woods and pink sunset, firelight, illuminated windows and plumes of smoke - as well as machinery, tools and trucks. The text has humour, and the ethos of the book is as gentle as its illustrations: the animals (who all walk balletically on their hind legs) work together, are hospitable and polite, keep their promises, share chores and settle quietly and cosily at night. Reading A House in the Woods makes you want to live in it. -- Nicolette Jones * The Sunday Times *
