Media Reviews
A beautifully illustrated book complete with sparkles and a dreamy rhyming pace. -- Mummy Pages * Mummy Pages *
Cake mixing, baking and eating fuel this zingy, high-energy book as a restless baby sets about a night-time adventure. Suddenly it is wide-awake time in the kitchen, and her friends - Candy Baby, Jelly Baby and Allsorts Baby - are set to help. There's egg cracking and smacking, flour sieving and shaking, and the mixture is whisked until it is flitter flotter fluffy . When the glorious cake is ready and iced it is magic moonlight dreamy - perfect for offering to the Moon, who turns up just in time to eat a slice. (2+) -- Julia Ecceshare * The Guardian *
The two talented Dunbars serve up a riot of rhyme, colour and action as the baby bakers get stuck into a mixing bowl full of magic and mayhem. Success on a plate! -- Lancashire Evening Post * Lancashire Evening Post *
The whole concoction is just so-o good I'd like to show every single spread but you'll just have to get hold of a copy for yourself. -- Red Reading Hub * Red Reading Hub *
A very satisfying dish that should be in classrooms and nurseries everywhere. -- Books for Keeps * Books for Keeps *
All glittery and fun and perfect for both storytime and bedtime. -- Independent Bookshop Week supplement * The Guardian *
The palette is stylish from the chubby cook's cheeks to the scintillating Candy Baby, Jelly Baby, and Allsorts Baby, who all double up as kitchen maids. The layout of the words, in curves and waves, is as delightfully quirky as the story itself, and the finale is a hoot for everyone to enjoy. -- Carousel * Carousel *
With full, colourful mixed-media illustrations, both the words and the images flow from whisk to bowl across the pages [...] It is lovely to see the type become part of the illustrations and the flow of the story instead of just dropped over images. Young readers of 0-4 will enjoy the lilting language and are sure to try the words out themselves. -- Alan O'Rourke * Inis *
This is glorious use of language, and Polly's illustrations are spot on, as you might expect. This will be excellent to read aloud to a pre-school or infant group * The School Librarian *
