Modern Social Work Theory

by Malcolm Payne (Author)

Synopsis

This welcome new edition of a best-selling text offers a comprehensive survey of major theories relevant to social work practice and a clear assessment of the role and value of each approach based on the current critical literature. The book builds on the strength of the previous editions, with a major recasting of the first two chapters to bring them up to date, a wholly new chapter on feminist theory, and a greater emphasis on applying theory to practice. Taken together, the revisions will secure the continuing value of this world-class textbook as an invaluable companion for social work students and educators alike.

Media Reviews
'the seminal work of its type in social work today' - Professor Jan Fook, Director, Centre for Professional Development, La Trobe University, Australia 'the most comprehensive attempt to provide an overarching view of theory for social work in one text' - Dr Caroline Skehill, School of Social Work, Queens University Belfast 'this text stands out above all others' - Dr Stephen C. Anderson, Director and Professor, School of Social Work, New Mexico State University, USA 'This new edition of a standard, well regarded textbook is well written, has clear analyses, excellent bibliographies and website references both at the end of each section and at the end of the book...' - Gwyn Gwyntopher, Professional Social Work '...this new edition should be warmly welcomed. It is important and it is unique. Payne uses ingenious devices to engage the interest of the reader and to make the concepts he presents interesting...There is nothing else quite like it in the field and it is reasonable to expect that it will be a long time before the field sees its equal.' - Charles Guzzetta, European Journal of Social Work
