American Indian Cultural Heroes: Evenings with Chasing Deer

American Indian Cultural Heroes: Evenings with Chasing Deer

by Kurt Kaltreider Ph.D. (Author)

Synopsis

The first section of this books tells the tales of three great figures in American Indian culture: two of flesh and bone and one heroine of spirit. These stories give us hope that in a time of disaray and despair, a culture can be turned around to walk a more wholesome path. The second section offers yarns from the Lakota that relate the dire consequences in store for those who choose to live a life of self-centred pursuit. In all of them, we're reminded that only a life lived in integrity and service is a life worth living.

Media Reviews
Several years ago in my book American Indian Prophecies, I related discussions between myself and Chasing Deer (a Cheyenne/Lakota elder) in which we spoke of the vast differences between Western and American Indian culture. Interwoven in these talks were many prophecies that related to these incongruities. In this book, I bring you those stories and tales that Chasing Deer told me around the campfire at night.
