Media Reviews
Buyer reviews on www.amazon.co.uk 5.0 out of 5 stars 6 Mar 2009 By C. Rees Chris Rees (UK) (REAL NAME) I am a massive fan of music, especially appreciating raw music talent. It is one of the reasons I bought and read this book. This book delivered everything to me as a reader - success, humorous stories and sadness that occured through their lives whilst embracing their passion for their gifted ability which was to play the guitar and sing to people like me. I have seen many of the 'Gods' play and they are indeed brilliant, musically and because of this book they are now appreciated. This book is very well written, totally dedicated to the people he is interviewing and well worth a read and if you are a music fan or a current musician who needs to know what its like to do what you really feel passionate about. 4.0 stars out of 5 Guitar Gods? - Eight great stories add up to a good read! 8 Feb 2009 By Robert Vernon Silver Gigs Rob (Bedford UK) REAL NAME) As a resident of the metropolis of Bedford (UK), and a budding guitarist myself, I just couldn't resist this book! Somewhat cynical about the title, I settled down to read it one cold Sunday morning. I am familiar with some of the characters, so the individual stories were interesting on two levels - their personal story, and their musical reminiscences. There's an invisible link between guitarists (just watch two guitarists talking in a pub, and you'll see many air-guitar impressions!) and this comes across well in the book. They all have interesting stories to tell, and I found the book hard to put down, once I got started... so much so that I actually finished it in one session. Overall impression: A good read, with plenty to make you smile.
Author Bio
Mike Buchanan is a 52-year old British author, with five books written and published since 2008. The first was published and distributed internationally by Kogan Page, the later books were published and distributed internationally by LPS publishing (www.lpspublishing.co.uk). The books are: 'Profitable Buying Strategies: how to cut procurement costs and buy your way to higher profits' The book was written during a sabbatical taken by the author after 25 years working at a senior level in the procurement of goods and services for major organisations. 'Guitar Gods in Beds. (Bedfordshire: a heavenly county)' The colourful lives of eight guitarists living in or near Bedford, the author's adopted home town, as related by themselves. 'Two Men in a Car (A businessman, a chauffeur, and their holidays in France)' The tale of two long holidays in France in 2007 and 2008, enjoyed by the politically incorrect author (the 'businessman') and his equally politically incorrect friend Paul Carrington (the 'chauffeur'). Paul's life story is related in 'Guitar Gods in Beds.' 'The Marriage Delusion: the fraud of the rings?' A critique of marriage which argues that most people in the developed world in the modern era are unsuited to the institution. Launched in a hardback edition, a paperback edition has since been made available under the title 'The Fraud of the Rings'. The book has attracted testimonials from two leading authors / psychologists: A highly original and stimulating critique of the modern marriage crisis, supported by important yet sometimes uncomfortable truths.A Oliver James, clinical psychologist, broadcaster, author of 'Affluenza', 'Britain on the Couch', 'They Fxxx You Up', 'How NOT to Fxxx Them Up' Mike Buchanan's analysis of marriage in western industrialised society is courageous and thoughtful. His perspectives on the challenges associated with marriage, and solutions to them, draw on important scientific evidence and arguments from some of our leading psychologists and wisest philosophers. This is a 'must-read' for all concerned with modern marriage.A Alan Carr, Professor of Clinical Psychology, University College, Dublin, author of 'The Handbook of Adult Clinical Psychology', 'Family Therapy' and 'Positive Psychology' 'Buchanan's Dictionary of Quotations for right-minded people' A dictionary of quotations (serious and amusing) supporting right-of-centre perspectives. The book's cover and preliminary pages are the only differences compared with the American edition, the imaginatively-titled 'Buchanan's Dictionary of Quotations for right-minded Americans'. The author is currently working on a guide to self-publishing, which he plans to follow with his first work of fiction. He confidently anticipates that the latter will win the Pulitzer Prize.
