by Alison Renshaw (Editor), RichardBoult (Author), Bobby Hunt (Illustrator), PaulDunning (Illustrator)

Synopsis

The Craft of Leadership is a guide to the actions which can be taken by anyone who leads a team and is charged with getting results within an organisation. Aimed at both junior managers, accountable for a few members of staff and to those in more senior positions; its focus is on the role of the leader, and creates a check-list for simple day-by-day actions. This book is for aspiring leaders within the private, public-service or voluntary sectors and within the business, commerce, medical and education fields. It touches briefly on the subjects of motivation and the challenges which may arise concerning the leader's loyalty to the wider organisation of which the team is a part and on resolving the sometimes conflicting demands of the immediate and the more distant future. It looks at the special factors which may arise in an emergency situation, and in leadership posts right at the top of an organisation. It finishes with comment on ethics and the wider contribution which the leadership attitude can make throughout society.

Media Reviews
Nearly thirty years after my first meeting with Richard Boult the three circles of leadership are still firmly engraved in my mind. I was then a very young and newly appointed school deputy head with charisma in overdrive but not a clue of how leadership worked in practice. 'It's all about actions, dear boy!' rang in my ears as I finished my first day in Bryanston Square, headquarters of the then Industrial Society. After two headships, a managing directorship of an international education business, and having now established my own company I am still indebted to Richard for fixing in my mind the importance of Task, Team and Individual. Richard is a true missionary whose fervour 'on platform' as he called it, has inspired many in education and other walks of life. His message is even more relevant in today's challenging world of economic and political change. Whether you are in Tripoli or Tottenham, Kabul or Kidderminster, 'The Craft of Leadership' has something for you. Its message is as fresh and relevant as it was when I first sat at Richard's feet, something I have never regretted.
