Synopsis

Everyone who came into contact with 'Old Big Ead' has an interesting tale to tell and in The Life of Brian, the players who played for Brian, plus many of the other colleagues and managers of his time, friends and family, reveal their own personal experiences of the great man. This is a unique collection of those great memories of a true football hero. Arguably the greatest football manager of his generation and the best never to have managed England, Brain Clough will forever be remembered as a charismatic man who pulled no punches and earned the title 'genius' by many of those whose lives he enriched, right up to his recent, sad death, aged 69, on September 20, 2004. Clough was a brilliant centre-forward, scoring an astonishing number of goals for his home-town club, Middlesborough, and Sunderland before injury forced him to quit in his late twenties. He turned to management and after laying the foundations at little Hartlepool United, where he was the youngest Football League manager at the age of just 29, he went on to achieve legendary status as the straight-talking supremo who guided both Derby County and Nottingham Forest to a host of domestic and European honours throughout the 1970s. Brian had his share of disappointments, too, having been sacked by both Brighton (after nine months) and Leeds United (a mere 44 days!). In 2002 he underwent a liver transplant after vowing to give up alcohol.
