by PeterHamilton (Author)

Synopsis

Taggie and Jemima are holidaying on their dad's farm. They know just what to expect - a tumbledown old cottage, sunshine and strawberry picking. But then Jemima sees a white squirrel wearing glasses...and soon after, their father is captured and whisked away to a faerie world that's fallen to Darkness. But why would anybody want to kidnap boring old Dad, especially the dreaded King of Night? Could it be that their family isn't quite as ordinary as they believed? As Taggie and Jemima venture into fantastic Realms, they discover magical powers they never knew they had. Powers they're going to need during the desperate race to save their father. But the sisters will also need all the friends they can find - no matter what kind of folk they are, or where in history they belong...

Media Reviews
A fast-paced adventure that is both alarming and charming, funny and scary, and is always exciting. I am now even more wary of garden gnomes! Garth Nix The Queen of Dreams is a grand jaunt across time and space ... and through the realms. Everything great we've come to expect from a story by Peter Hamilton, but written for the young and the young at heart. -- Patrick Heffernan Mysterious Galaxy Books Taggie and Jemima's summer holiday turns into something very unexpected in this gripping fantasy tale... A compelling read, with cleverly drawn characters who are believable despite the magic. A good start to the trilogy. Parents in Touch Never less than great fun ... [Some] facets of the book draw heavily on the children's literature of, say, Lewis Carroll or JM Barrie, at other times Hamilton takes delight in subverting his (older) readers' expectations -- Jonathan Wright SFX Beautifully written in clear and accessible prose that also manages to do some vocabulary stretching. The worldbuilding is imaginative and hangs together perfectly... The action also comes thick and fast so that nobody has a chance to be bored ... The whole book is a treasure trove of invention and many junior fans of fantasy will love it ... The Queen of Dreams comes recommended by Bookbag. It's pacy and fun and exciting, full of interesting characters, and set in a wonderfully realised fantasy landscape. It ticks all the boxes. -- Jill Murphy The Bookbag
