Nightmares!

by Jason Segel (Author), Kirsten Miller (Author)

Synopsis

Charlie Laird has always been fascinated by the sinister purple mansion that overlooks Cyprus Creek. Now he's moving in there with his dad, little brother and new stepmother, who may or may not be a witch. It's not long before the mansion starts to have a strange effect on Charlie. His dreams turn to nightmares and they feel uncomfortably real. Most frightening of all, the nightmares have started to slip out of his dreams and into the waking world. They are threatening to take over and only Charlie and his friends can stop them. Can they find the courage to face their deepest, darkest fears? Will they conquer the creatures of the night and save the day?

Media Reviews
A good choice for elementary-aged scare-seekers School Library Journal Segel and Miller build an entertaining, cartoony world full of scary (but not too scary) monsters, silly jokes, plucky kid heroes, and a cinematic plot that trundles onward to a satisfying conclusion, with a promise of adventures to come Booklist Segel and Miller make for a solid team; their Netherworld is populated by everything from talking bugs to killer clowns, and the underlying message-sometimes you have to admit to and confront your fears-is important. Kwasny's illustrations provide a fitting mixture of realism and absurdity. Publishers Weekly HowI Met Your Mother vet Jason Segel offers a touching comical saga, the first of a trilogy, about facing things that go bump in the night. US Weekly
Author Bio
Jason Segel used to have nightmares just like Charlie, and just like Charlie, he's learned that the things we're most afraid of are the things that can make us strong...if we're brave enough to face them. Jason likes acting, writing, making music, and hanging out with his friends. Sometimes he writes movies. Sometimes he writes songs for movies. Sometimes he stars in those movies and sings those songs. You might know him from The Muppets and Despicable Me. Your parents might know him from other stuff. Nightmares! is his first novel. Kirsten Miller grew up in a small town just like Cyprus Creek, minus the purple mansion. She lives and writes in New York City. Kirsten is the author of the acclaimed Kiki Strike books and the Eternal Ones series. You can visit her at kirstenmillerbooks.com.
