Search Press Classics are a series of books that have stood the test of time and taught many people how to master a skill. Originally published back in 2005 this is the book to get if you are keen to take up making mosaics. I have seen a lot of other books on the subject including those purporting to be for beginners, but this is still the best one. Why? I guess it depends what you want out of your first few mosaic projects, and what you understand mosaics to be. This is not the place to learn how to make them out of pebbles, read an in-depth history of the topic or gaze at a gallery. Instead this is the place where you can really roll up your sleeves and get cracking on your new hobby. It tells you in not that many pages what to buy and why you need it then gets on with the first project. Make a mirror frame, cover a table, clock, dish, pot and more. Learn direct and indirect methods and end up with some attractive, useful pieces made with tiles manufactured for mosaics, old wall tiles and even broken crockery. Projects have plenty of staged photographs telling you what to do in easy steps that are pretty foolproof, and I love the way all you do with this book is make mosaics - the perfect primer!
