Encaustic Art. How To Paint With Wax

Encaustic Art. How To Paint With Wax

by Michael Bossom (Author)

Synopsis

Knowledge of how to draw is not necessary for the craft of encaustic art - painting with wax. All that is required is a few wax colours, some card and a small electric iron. A whole range of cards, gifts and paintings can be easily made. Step-by-step photographs illustrate how to create abstract designs and landscapes. Pictures take on a glow with the warm wax colours, and texture and detail can be added to enhance images. The wax can also be applied to fabric which can then be decorated with surface embroidery and beadwork.

Media Reviews

May 2006

Four years ago I read an article in a magazine about encaustic art; eager to start I got my husband to purchase all the materials for me. The day arrived when all the materials were delivered and I couldn't wait to get started. Unfortunately encaustic art was a lot harder than I thought and with the badly written instructions in the magazine, my attempt could only be classed as a failure.

When I saw this book I was eager to have a browse to see whether this book could help me in any way. I am very pleased to say that since reading this book I have become an encaustic art addict.

The instructions are so simple to understand and yet so detailed. The illustrations show each step so at no point are you left wondering what to do next. There are a lot of techniques to be learnt but if you work your way through the book you will become more confident as you turn every page. By the end of the book, you will be able to incorporate more complex techniques into your paintings such as using rubber stamps. This is such a relaxing art and if you learn all the techniques you can create wonders! Any small error can just be melted away in this wonderful art. Take a look at any of Michael Blossom's work in this book and you are sure to be inspired!
