How to Make Felt

How to Make Felt

by Anne Belgrave (Author)

Synopsis

Felt, one of man's earliest fabrics, dates back to prehistoric times, but is still popular today. Easily hand-made in the home from woollen fleece, simply by adding moisture, heat and pressure, it has many creative applications. This book, written by an experienced feltmaker, shows readers, through photographs, how to make felt and how to create a wide range of items: hats, bags, slippers, rugs, blankets, masks and wall-hangings. Other projects include: dyed or undyed felt, plain or patterned; inlaying of multi-coloured designs into felt; unusual wools such as llama, camel or alpaca; and sewn or embroidered felt.

Author Bio
Anne Belgrave lives on the Welsh borders. After an initial training as a sculptor, she worked as a silversmith, and later as a weaver. As a result of keeping sheep and using their wool, she learnt about felt and was immediately intrigued by its potential. She now makes felt hats and rugs for sale and exhibitions. She also gives lectures and runs workshops to inspire people to revive the ancient art of feltmaking.
