Goody, B.Sc., PhD., revised and expanded the book, providing a wide new base of valuable anatomical information. This third edition came to fruition in 1992 when Peter Gray MVB, MRCVS, completely revised and updated the work, bringing a clinical viewpoint to the existing text, and by combining the knowledge of structural characteristics with the known stresses caused by diverse factors such as concussion and conformation, and an examination of spinal dynamics and muscular injuries, enables the reader to understand more easily how and why lameness occurs. The result is a work which will be of inestimable benefit to a new generation of students and horse owners.

Author Bio
R.H. Smythe, MRCVS, the son of a veterinary surgeon, qualified in 1909 and practised in Cornwall for many years, making his calls on horseback. He was well-known as a trainer and exhibitor of horses both under saddle and in harness. For twenty-one years he acted as examiner in surgery to the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. Peter Goody, B.S.c., Ph.D., studied zoology and palaeontology at London University. He was professor of biology in the US before being appointed lecturer in anatomy at the Royal Veterinary College. He is the author of Horse Anatomy, also published by J.A. Allen. Peter Gray MVB, MRCVS, qualified as a veterinary surgeon from University College Dublin in 1964. He has spent most of the intervening years in equine practice, during which time he has gained wide clinical experience in both stud and racing spheres. His particular fields are physical and preventative medicine, the influence of virus disease on performance, and the areas of physiotherapy and lameness.
