by Michael Glover (Introduction), E.D.Swinton (Author)
Duffer's Drift is a classic text on training young officers, derived from tactics employed in the Boer War, which is thought-provoking and entertaining, in contrast to the unimaginative rote-learning of the drill books and Field Exercises which had previously passed for training. It puts its lessons in the context of modern war instead of a stylized picture of campaigning which had its roots before Waterloo and had only been partially modified by the lessons learned before Sebastopol. The book has been translated into several languages and provides an interesting historical military document.
