Synopsis

From the author of Extraordinary Chickens comes the newest extraordinary animal-the pig. Extraordinary Pigs shows the many varieties of swine, from tiny KuneKunes and wrinkled Meishans, to spotted Gloucester Old Spots and curly coated Mangalitzas. One of the most intelligent animals on Earth, the pig truly is a fascinating creature with an abundance of personality. Breeds from all over the world are featured here, from the United States, England, Belgium, Hungary, New Zealand, China, Vietnam, and even Africa. Each type has been developed to suit regional conditions of climate, landscape, and food supply. Wild breeds and rare heritage breeds are right alongside the white pigs of Babe fame and the miniatures, which are highly prized as pets. Photographer Stephen Green-Armytage captures these lively and energetic animals in beautiful full-colour as they play and forage on the farm, prance around the show ring, or strut across a studio backdrop. Belted, coloured, hairy, and spotted, these delightful pigs will transport you to hog heaven.
