by JeanneSteig (Author)
Children, octogenarians and everyone in between know the work of William Steig, the beloved cartoonist, sculptor and multiple award-winning children's book author ( Shrek ). For over seventy years, his cartoons graced the covers and pages of the New Yorker . He is the author of forty books; all but five of them are for children. Jeanne Steig has uncovered over five hundred, never-before-published cartoons by her husband. Collected here for the first time, the book is divided into seven sections: Ladies and Gents, Dogs, Odd Ducks, Bodily Harm, Art, Cats and Clowns & Ninnies. Each section is prefaced with text by Jeanne and the book is rounded out with an expanded version of her New York Times Op-ed appreciation of her husband, which she wrote upon his death on October 3, 2003, as well as an introduction by Roz Chast and an afterword by Jules Feiffer.
