Synopsis

This text aims to provide the reader with skills to read and interpret scientific journal articles and also to recognize appropriate format for research studies. All examples and problems will be developed from relevant human movement research. It is intended to provide two types of goals for the reader; knowledge goals and skills goals. The knowledge goals include: understanding the principles of science; developing familiarity with research in sports and exercise science; recognizing the basics of experimental design; and awareness of the format of research articles. The skills goals include: organizing and preparing written research assignments in proper format; performing and interpreting statistical calculations; and conducting library research. These two goals are woven through the context of the text.
