All the Windwracked Stars

All the Windwracked Stars

by ElizabethBear (Author)

Synopsis

It all began with Ragnarok, with the Children of the Light and the Tarniished Ones battling to the death in the ice and the dark. At the end of the long battle, one Valkyrie survived, and one valraven - the steeds of the Valkyrie. Because they lived, Valdyrgard was not wholly destroyed. Because the valraven was transformed in the last miracle offered to a Child of the Light, Valdyrgard was changed to a world where magic and technology worked hand in hand. More than two thousand years later, Muire is in the last city on the dying planet, where the Technomancer rules what's left of humanity. She's caught sight of someone she ha not seen since the Last Battle: Mingan the Wolf is hunting in her city.

Media Reviews
* Hugo winner Bear perfectly captures the essence of faded hopes and exhausted melancholy in this postapocalyptic melodrama based loosely upon Norse mythology... Readers will be captivated by Bear's incredibly complex, broken characters; multilayered themes of redemption; and haunting, world-breaking decisions... its finale is both rewarding and compelling. Author Bio
Elizabeth Bear was born on the same day as Frodo and Bilbo Baggins, but in a different year. This, coupled with a childhood tendency to read the dictionary for fun, led her inevitably to penury, intransigence, the mispronunciation of common English words, and the writing of speculative fiction. She is the author of seven previous sf/f novels, including A Companion to Wolves with Sarah Monette.
