Synopsis

Kharl, the cooper has no sooner settled into the estate bestowed upon him by Lord Ghrant of Austra when he is summoned back to the capital by his friend Hagen, the lord-chancellor, who needs help in dealing with rebellious nobles. After a bloody campaign, peace is restored and Ghrant's throne firmly secured. But to his surprise, Kharl is soon called upon again, this time to return as envoy to his home-land of Nordla. When he discovers a plot by the Hamorians and his old enemy Egen - the local heir apparent - to take the throne from his father and open Nordla to the enemy, Kharl has to find a solution, for the sake of both the land of his birth and his new homeland.

Author Bio

L. E. Modesitt, Jr., is the bestselling author of the fantasy series The Saga of Recluce, Corean Chronicles, and the Imager Portfolio. His science fiction includes Adiamante, the Ecolitan novels, the Forever Hero Trilogy, and Archform: Beauty. Besides a writer, Modesitt has been a U.S. Navy pilot, a director of research for a political campaign, legislative assistant and staff director for a U.S. Congressman, Director of Legislation and Congressional Relations for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, a consultant on environmental, regulatory, and communications issues, and a college lecturer. He lives in Cedar City, Utah.
