`This erudite, informative and practical book... is reader-friendly. Sound practical advice is given on classroom organization and shared reading and writing activities to build on, develop and extend the child's emergent language skills' - The School Librarian

This book is designed to support early years carers and practitioners by giving them a confident understanding of children's language development in the years 0-8.

Accessible and jargon-free, the book begins with an explanation of how very young children develop language, and leads on to the development of literacy in early years settings. The author explores the achievements and challenges of young bilinguals, and provides practical ways for carers and parents to work in partnership to promote children's development. The book includes many examples of children's work and a glossary of linguistic terms is included to help those new to language study.
