Media Reviews
TV gardener and writer Pippa Greenwood lends her experience in this book to demonstrate how to have a garden with year-round interest. Many people regard their garden as being a summer feature, to be enjoyed only when the weather is warm and the sun out. But a garden is there 365 days a year, wind, rain, snow or sun, and with a little forethought it can be a welcoming feature throughout the year. With careful selection, trees, shrubs, climbers and perennials can provide colour and interest through all four seasons. Pippa instructs in an easy, conversational way which plants offer the most, not only season by season but in some cases which can provide interest over several seasons. And not only plants, she demonstrates how clever use of garden features such as arches, statuary and water features can provide structure in the bare winter months too. For anyone looking for a great garden regardless of the month, this is an excellent guide. Slightly slack in cultural information, which in any case can be gleaned elsewhere, it is an inspirational book, fully illustrated and well laid-out, that should inspire gardeners to regard their plots as a permanent, everyday feature, not one just to be enjoyed in the warmer months. - Lucy Watson
