Iyengar Yoga

by JudySmith (Author)

Synopsis

Written with the approval of BKS Iyengar himself, this title serves as an introduction to Iyengar yoga, a philosophy and system that concentrates on the asanas or postures to promote unity of the body, mind and spirit. The asanas are conveniently graded and grouped by type for easy reference, and they have been specially chosen for beginners and intermediates. The second part of the book is dedicated to routines, ranging from simple ten-minute sessions to sequences for an hour or more per day. It also provides remedial sequences that can benefit illnesses as well as common problems such as headaches, backaches, arthritis and joint stiffness. A section explains the Sanskrit names for the poses and there is also a list of useful addresses and societies. This book is so easy-to-follow you should soon be able to see an improvement in strength, concentration and body tone.
