Playing with Numbers: Building Numeracy (Early Learner S.)

by JoannaBabb (Author)

Synopsis

Give your child a head start at school and have fun at the same time. Bright photographs of children at work and play combine with games, puzzles, exercises and activities to stimulate the child's numeracy development, powers of concentration and enjoyment of learning. A British Government paper noted that "When parents and adults work together to support children's learning, the results can have a measurable and lasting effect upon children's achievement." This book is packed with fun learning activities that children and adults can share and enjoy together. They are carefully devised to give a child the necessary confidence and motivation that are fundamental to building basic numeracy skills. The book focuses on different, key aspects of numeracy in turn - counting, adding and subtracting, measures, shape and space, time, direction and movement - using such devices as puzzles, games, recipes and lots of ideas to try out at home, in nursery school and first year at primary school.
