Perfectly pitched text by an expert author provides a highly practical guide to every aspect of ballet, while beautiful, commissioned photographs truly capture the magic of dance, from the excitement of a child's first class to the joy of dancing on stage and the wonder of watching ballet in performance. Throughout, expert professionals give hints and tips that will help every child make the most of his or her ballet classes. As well as a beautiful, inspirational book for children who learn ballet, this will be a valuable resource for primary school teachers and library buyers. It is much more than just a 'how to' as it covers wider aspects of dance education (a compulsory part of the KS1 and KS2 PE curriculum) including creating dance, understanding dance and watching ballet.

Author Bio
Kate Castle's career began as a dancer with the Royal Ballet at Covent Garden. She later became the education officer for the company, and has worked as a dance consultant and educator for many years, currently serving as the Director of Dance South West, one of the UK's National Dance Agencies. She has written several children's books about ballet, including Kingfisher's best-selling The Best-Ever Book of Ballet. She lives in Bournemouth, England. Anna du Boisson trained at the Rambert Ballet School and danced as a soloist with major ballet companies for 15 years before going on to teach internationally and in the UK. She founded the West London School of Dance, which offers classes for boys and girls from the age of two-and-a-half to 18; many of her pupils go on to achieve places and scholarships with top ballet companies or to dance in prestigious professional shows such as Billy Elliot (the film) and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (the West End musical). Children from the West London School of Dance feature in My First Ballet, and Anna has brought her expertise to each photoshoot.
