by Claire Llewellyn (Author)

Synopsis

This work explores the lives of the saints, and the hierarchies of angels. It gives details of the lives and works of the most famous saints from around the world. The different types of angels are introduced, including guardian and fallen angels, and each of the most famous angels has their own page devoted to them. The book includes most of the well-known saints - from the Apostles and John the Baptist, to St Joan of Arc, St Bernadette and St Patrick - and the famous archangels - Michael, Gabriel and Raphael. As well as outlining each saint's life story and the work of the angels, there are also details of their feast days and patronages. A calendar of feast days is also included.

Carlee Hallman - Children's Literature
This lovely little book gives an overview and short biography of thirty saints of the Roman Catholic Church and three angels. Well-known saints, such as St. Patrick, St. Francis, and St. Nicholas, are included among others. In the section called Great Thinkers and Evangelists are St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas. The date of the Feast Day of each saint and other facts are set apart at the edge of the page for quick identification. Most pages show a painting or a detail of a painting of the saint reproduced in color. At the end is a calendar of Feast Days, a glossary, an identification of other characters mentioned, and an index. Catholics and Protestants will enjoy this as an easy reference book to Roman Catholic Saints. Gold-edged pages, a blue ribbon bookmark, heavenly blue and gold endpapers, and a see-through book jacket printed with saints and angels make this an attractive gift book for young people and adults. 2006 (orig. 2003), Kingfisher/Houghton Mifflin Company, Ages 12 up.
