Dexter In The Dark

by JeffLindsay (Author)

Synopsis

Is evil alive...? Dr Jerry Halpern is trying to find out, studying for his PhD on the subject. Dexter Morgan, meanwhile, has a few wicked things of his own to contend with - not least, planning his wedding to Rita to complete his nice-guy disguise. But when a student of Halpern's is found burnt, molested and headless - seemingly sacrificed to an ancient god - and Dex is brought in as forensic analyst to help investigate, he realises he could be dealing with someone a whole lot more sinister than he is. Soon it seems the dark passenger in Dexter's head has gone into hiding. And when something creeps out your friendly neighbourhood serial killer, you know it's serious...As Halpern and Dexter are stalked by death, it looks like it's getting personal - especially as Dex now has a family to protect. Gradually, Dexter realises his stepchildren might share his extra-curricular interest in death. Could he help them target their bloodlust, just as he steers his own? But to do that, Dex must cope with a certain mutilated sergeant from his past, and more importantly...stay alive...

Book Overview: In Dexter, Jeff Lindsay has turned convention on its head and created one of the most original and exciting heroes to bloody the pages of a serial killer thriller. Dexter is now the basis for a smash hit US TV series from Showtime - makers of THE L WORD and DEAD LIKE ME. Adapted by James Manos Jr, Emmy award-winning writer of THE SOPRANOS, and starring Michael C Hall of SIX FEET UNDER, it's already been commissioned for a second series. DARKLY DREAMING DEXTER was shortlisted for the 2005 Barry Awards. Dark, twisted and blacky funny, it's no wonder the critics can't get enough: 'A most welcome return for Dexter Morgan... Clever and wonderfully incorrect, the adventures of Dexter are a delight for all those who like their crime fiction just that little bit twisted.' GUARDIAN 'Dearly Devoted Dexter is fascinating, entertaining, and brilliant. Let Jeff Lindsay introduce you to the serial killer next door-Dexter (and his Dark Passenger) are the freshest, most terrifying creations you are ever likely to meet ... and live to tell about.' Robert Crais

Media Reviews
'Every instinct told me to disapprove of these books (which have now been turned into a hit TV series on both sides of the Atlantic), and to condemn their flippancy about depravity but, dammit, Dexter has a way of getting under your skin. His one-liners are funny (in a very dark way) and the plots are intriguing... Serially wicked stuff.' -- Matthew Lewin GUARDIAN 'Entertainingly idiosyncratic as usual' DAILY EXPRESS 'Dexter in the Dark is witty and thought-provoking, full of unexpected sidelights on the nature of murder. Highly recommended.' -- Andrew Taylor SPECTATOR 'An enjoyable reunion with the only psychopath you wouldn't mind having in your corner.' -- Shari Low DAILY POST 'The darkly humourous adventures of Dexter Morgan... sardonically super' PETERBOROUGH EVENING TELEGRAPH BOOKS OF THE YEAR 'Dark, original, and often very funny - like the Dexter series as a whole' SPECTATOR
