Push Yourself Just A Little Bit More: Backstage at Le Tour de France: Backstage at the Tour De France

by JohnnyGreen (Author)

Synopsis

Recently, there has been a glut of books on Le Tour de France. None, however, got quite as close to the race as Push Yourself Just a Little Bit More will, which is Johnny Green's account of the 2003 and 2004 races from inside the security cordon, mingling with the cyclists, press and the 'Credit Lyonnais trophy girls' in equal measure. He managed to blag his way right to the inner sanctum, to chat to the likes of Sheryl Crow and David Millar (in 2003) and the many stagehands behind the scenes on the three-week tour. The only place he didn't make it was into the doping van. Fittingly, from the former road manager of The Clash, Push Yourself Just a Little Bit More ...is a kind of rock 'n' roll account of life on the road with Le Tour.

Book Overview: Coverage and enthusiasm for Le Tour is increasing by the year. Recent years have seen huge media coverage and a glut of books on the race. Johnny Green's account will differ greatly from previous orthodox sporting titles. John is a keen cycling fan, but his unique voice casts more of an irreverent eye over the proceedings. John is extremely promotable: he's recently been featured on BBC 2 talking about The Clash, and frequently crops up in the pages of Uncut and Mojo. Interest in Le Tour de France was high again in 2004, when Lance Armstrong secured his record sixth title. In 2005 and/or 2006 Le Tour comes to London.
