Missing Justice

by Alafair S . Burke (Author)

Synopsis

Deputy DA Samantha Kincaid is back to work after an attempt on her life and a promotion into the Major Crimes Unit. When the husband of Portland judge Clarissa Easterbrook reports her missing, and Samantha is called out on the case, she assumes her only job is to make the district attorney look good until the judge reappears none the worse. When the police discover evidence of foul play, however, Samantha finds herself unearthing secrets that Clarissa had wanted to stay hidden, the lingering personal tolls of a crime that occurred decades ago, and corruption at the highest levels of the city's power structure. Her quest for justice could cost her not only her job, but her life.

Book Overview: With its irreverent heroine and seamless blend of squad rooms, streets and the courtroom, MISSING JUSTICE confirms Burke's place among the genre's most talented newcomers. Follow-up to the excellent debut novel, JUDGMENT CALLS. Alafair Burke's first novel was part of the successful New Blood promotion, and she received excellent reviews across the board. 'Exciting, individual and unreservedly excellent ... An absorbing, enjoyable first outing. Safe to assume there'll be many more' Literary Review. 'She's a chip off the old block ... As first novels go, it's exceptional: taut, clever, complex and different from her old man's style' The Herald. 'A nice combination of tense courtroom drama and action-packed police procedural, JUDGMENT CALLS is an assured and promising debut' Irish Independent. '[Burke] handles the various threads of the story with aplomb, her characters are believable, her plotting is right on the button, and in Kincaid she has created a sympathetic protagonist that I'm sure we'll hear about again' Irish Times. 'Ms Burke is a born storyteller and has created an attractive heroine whom I look forward to meeting again' Sunday Telegraph.
