Soul Circus

Soul Circus

by George Pelecanos (Author)

Synopsis

Just another day in downtown Washington DC? Private Investigator Derek Strange and his partner, Terry Quinn, run a PI business in the seedy underbelly of Washington DC. Strange and Quinn are approached by a young man asking them to find his girlfriend who has gone missing. And so Strange and Quinn find her. Just another day? Not quite. In the grimy underworld inhabited by Strange, nothing is that simple. For Strange and Quinn's efforts have led to a young mother being brutally murdered - a devastating discovery that causes them both to question the morality by which they live. And yet at the same time they need to continue the search for another missing girl, a teenage runaway who shows up in a porn video. And who hasn't been seen since. Bleak, gritty and moving, "Soul Circus" superbly brings to life the devastating story of life and death in Washington's black ghettoes.

Book Overview: SOUL CIRCUS is darkly atmospheric with strong characterisation and a compelling plot. 'For some time George P. Pelecanos has been the best-kept secret in crime fiction - maybe all fiction. His stories have always been powerful tales of character and survival that grip the mind and the heart.' Michael Connelly A good performance from HELL TO PAY. We converted our 6000 trade paperback sale into a hardcover one. Again sell-through was great and returns minimal.

NATIONAL UK AUTHOR TOUR - CANCELLED DUE TO SNOW IN WASHINGTON Following 2 feet of snow poor George spent 9 hours on the runway at Washington airport waiting to fly over for his tour, then a chilly day and a half at an aiport hotelbefore we decided to cancel his tour. The bookshops who had events have beenvery understanding and George will be signing bookplates for them and their customers. The shops had done a great job too: OTTKARS in Clapham had taken 80 reservations and WATERSTONE'S in Manchester and Leeds had about 50 reservations each. The good news is his ticket is fully refundable and we only lost a50 deposit for the launch party. In total, cancelling his our at such short notice is only going to cost us about 350/400.
