Book Overview: While not an official REM product, the band is aware of the project and views it favourably - -- Peter Buck has been interviewed for the foreword. To be advertised on the band's official web site, and will feature in the REM fan club newsletter (8000 circulation). The authors have concrete links with the band's office in Athens, Georgia, and have put the book together with access to the band's official archive. Features a great deal of previously unseen visual material, and unheard anecdotes, etc. Tim Abbott, in particular, has a vast collection of REM memorabilia, which will feature in the book, in b/w & full colour. It's eight years since the last quality book about the band. This will be the definitive book on REM. The band have a very solid international fan base: 40,000 people saw them play at Milton Keynes Bowl in 1995; thousands more saw them on the 1999 world tour. The four albums released between 1991 & 1996 - Out of Time, Automatic for the People, Monster and New Adventures in Hi-Fi - sold an estimated 10,000,000 copies each, world-wide. The band has a new album out in May 2001. They have tentative plans to tour in late 2001/early 2002.
