by Michael Connelly (Author)
Los Angeles has suffered an earthquake. Harry Bosch's house is teetering, condemned, and his girlfriend has left him, he's also been forced to have 'stress counselling' after a punch-up with a senior police officer.
Harry reopens the murder investigation of his prostitute mother. He traces the histories of the cops involved, examines the evidence, tries to track down his mother's pimp, friends, anyone who knew her. It all seems to hinge on a DA Conklin, now old and disabled. He loved Bosch's mother, to the point of wanting to marry her. Now it seems that whoever wanted her dead has the same fate in mind for Harry. One thing is sure: the predator who killed her made a good job of covering his tracks.
