Joan Alcock took a first degree in history and then further degrees in archaeology at the Institute of Archaeology, University of London. She lectures and writes on history, archaeology and environmental subjects, and specializes in the history of food at South Bank University, London. She is the author of Food in Roman Britain (Tempus 2001), described by The Archaeologist as an 'excellent overall introduction'. She lives in Sydenham, south-east London.
