Synopsis

Summer 1980 - Ronald Reagan is running for president, Elizabeth Taylor is in rehab and Sting has hair. Nobody is on the Internet, the ozone is thicker and the Spice Girls are not yet toilet trained. And gauche seventeen-year-old dancer Mindy Solomon is leaving Florida for New York, her goal to make it big. Mindy gets her break in the Broadway musical 'Springtime'. And then she gets another, when the two men who are meant to catch her cannot take their eyes off each other. Meanwhile Mindy's best friend Ursula, her modelling career not taking off, finds herself resorting to doing commercials produced by dodgy Casanovas old enough to be your father. Dodgy Casanovas who ARE your father.Then Mindy decides to try her luck at stand-up. It's not the greatest beginning ('Does anybody out there know any jokes?'), but before long the 1980s are hers: a rollercoaster of a ride of laughs, Letterman and love.Why, you'll be tickled pink.

Rita's regular appearances in the late 80s and early 90s, on Late Night with letterman and Comic Relief established her as one of the great stand-up comedians. She co-wrote and starred in the movie Peter's Friends with Emma Thompson, Kenneth Branagh and Stephen Fry.
