This guide to playing rock guitar is one of four courses. Each course takes the pupil from novice to an advanced level, and contains a book and a 75 minute compact disc. As the player is taken from the basics to a competent standard, new ideas are clearly introduced using jargon-free text, and are reinforced by easy-to-follow exercises of increasing complexity. Exercises are shown diagrammatically, photographically with conventional musical notation, and standard guitar tabulation. In addition, they can be heard on the compact disc. The compact disc mirrors the contents of the book allowing the elements of each exercise to the heard, and the pupil to hear immediately if they are playing incorrectly. Icons appear alongside each exercise indicating which track on the CD track to play. Each lesson is concluded with a backing track over which the guitarist can play. A feature of each course is the chord dictionary, with over 200 different chords that can also be heard alongside their constituent notes.
