The Home Front in Photographs

The Home Front in Photographs

by EmmaCrocker (Author)

Synopsis

The people's war on the so-called Home Front in Britain during the Second World War continues to fascinate. Drawing on the Imperial War Museum's 'D' Series of photographs that were taken during the Second World War by, and on behalf of, the Ministry of Information, this fascinating collection of images tells the story of Britain's war on the Home Front. It covers many different aspects of the conflict and how it affected the civilian population, ranging from industry, agriculture, the Blitz and Civil Defence to propaganda, the armed forces, food, fashion and entertainment, children and animals. Each section is accompanied by a short but authoritative introductory text that sets the photographs that follow in their particular wartime context. The photographs themselves are each supported by detailed and fully researched captions.
