She established one of the first Toy Libraries (for children with special needs) in the UK. She was involved with local playgroups, and over the years became a home tutor to many children who, for various reasons were unable to attend school. She gained Distinction in the City and Guilds Toy-making Qualification and spent several years as the toy and teaching equipment maker at large hospital for children and adults with multiple disabilities.
