Midwifery Teams and Caseloads

Midwifery Teams and Caseloads

by Caroline Flint (Author), HelenChown (Illustrator)

Synopsis

Continuity of carer during pregnancy and into the puerperium is something that mothers and midwives have always wanted. The most satisfying goal would be that each mother has her own special named midwife to whom she can turn at any time. Team midwifery has now opened up fantastic possibilities. Yet how are midwives to achieve such an ideal form of professional relationship? This book offers the essential guidance they need. It discusses all aspects of planning, setting up and running an effective team midwifery scheme. It is practical and realistic, offering ideas for adaptation on a smaller or larger scale. It recognises potential problems, whether practical or psychological and deals with the eonomical feasibility of such projects. The book is full of suggestions for initiating and implementing the necessary changes in practice and fostering changes in attitude. In addition, it is firmly based on the latest research, including some original, as yet unpublished, work. All practising midwives and their supervisors, NCT teachers, Unit general managers or obstetrics and gynacology units and also student midwives will benefit from reading this imaginative and stimulating companion. CAROLINE FLINT SRN, SCM, ADM Caroline has three children - all born at home at a time when home births were common. She is married to Giles and lives in London. Caroline has been an NCT teacher for 22 years, she qualified as a midwife 17 years ago and has worked as a Community Midwife, Antenatal Clinic Sister and as the leader of the 'Know Your Midwife' Scheme at St George's in Tooting - a scheme to enable women to get to know the midwife who would be delivering them. She has set up similar schemes for Riverside Health Authority where she worked as a Consultant for three and half years. She has been involved in 3 books, Sensitive Midwifery being the most well known.
