Our Bodies: The Senses

Our Bodies: The Senses

by SteveParker (Author)

Synopsis

This book looks at how each of the body's senses works to receive information about the world around us. It examines each sense organ in detail and shows how it is specialized to detect a feature or change outside the body. It looks at the process by which we become aware of what our senses detect and considers the effects of damage to each of the senses. This book also highlights the workings of the human body contrasted with the bodies of animals. There are case studies about, for example, what happens to the eyes as we're watching a film. There are also features on health and medicine, considering problems that can occur with all of the senses and what we can do to keep them healthy. Amazing colour photographs combine with original colour artwork to show the different body parts in detail. Weblinks, with useful website addresses which link to sites with more information about a particular topic, are an added feature throughout the book.

All these titles are fascinating, insightful and informative. The series is an excellent resource for more able key stage 2 scientists, though intended for KS3. Each title develops its subject matter through straightforward text and clearly detailed illustrations and photographs. Together with a comprehensive contents, index and well chosen web links, this allows readers to engage with the text independently. - TES
