A Long Walk to Lavender Street: A Story from South Africa (Survivors)

A Long Walk to Lavender Street: A Story from South Africa (Survivors)

by Belinda Hollyer (Author)

Synopsis

It is 1966 in apartheid South Africa and the Group Areas Act is wishing to turn Cape Town's District Six into a whites only area. Whole families are being forced to move to segregated zones, according to the colour of their skin. What will this mean for 13-year old Siesie's family? Siesie's father is Xhosa and her mother is Cape Coloured. How can Siesie and her family stay together when the authorities are determined to tear them apart? An introduction and epilogue set the story in historical context, and a map provides good geographical context.
