The series is based on an earlier one entitled Conserving Our World . Each book has been shortened and simplified with the intention of appealing to primary school children and meeting the special needs of secondary school children with reading difficulties. The texts have been checked by a language consultant. This book focuses on the polar regions, which have a wealth of wildlife, dramatic landscapes and now a growing tourist trade. Already under threat from pollution and mining, these regions face the possibility of damage from tourists. The book examines polar wildlife and population, discusses the threats and suggests ways of helping to protect the regions.
