Each book has been shortened and simplified with the intention of appealing to primary school children and meeting the special needs of secondary school children with reading difficulties. Plants, animals and people have gradually adapted to living in them, but now deserts are spreading, swallowing up farmland and settlements, threatening native plants and animals with extinction, and creating unnatural wastelands. The book discusses the spread of deserts, what causes it and how it can be stopped.
