Smile (I Can)

Smile (I Can)

by SarahLevete (Author), Mary Lonsdale (Illustrator)

Synopsis

I Can Smile looks at sadness, an often complicated and confusing emotion. It focuses on six personal stories that children will recognise and relate to, looking at emotions ranging from grief at the death of a relative or pet to grumps, tantrums and depression. In each section, a child narrates her/his experience and feelings, and explains how he/she found a way of dealing with her/his emotions. Linked to each story are examples of other children who may have experienced the same feelings as the narrator for different reasons, along with guidance and strategies on understanding and living with these feelings. Though I Can Smile focuses on understanding sadness, it also touches on related issues such as divorce, bullying, making friends and looking after your body.
