Synopsis

A series of books which provides a new approach to the great civilisations of the past through their myths. By reading a dynamically illustrated and exciting myth, the young reader is drawn into the context and mentality of the civilisation in question. Each book contains a selection of 9 or 10 myths and the same number of historical/cultural themes. Each myth is coupled with a nonfiction spread. The myths, chosen for their references to important aspects of the civilisation, are retold and illustrated on dramatic black backgrounds. Each myth spread is followed by a non-fiction spread which focuses on an aspect of the civilisation and its material culture.

Author Bio
Hazel Martell has written many history books for young people. She has an MA in history, and has worked as a librarian in schools and public libraries. She lives in Yorkshire and is interested in archaeology and travelling to unusual places. Her book 'What Do We Know About: Celts?' was short-listed for Stockton-on-Tees' Book of the Year Competition and was runner-up for the TES Junior Information Book Award.
