Forever and Ever Amen

Forever and Ever Amen

by JoePemberton (Author)

Synopsis

To James, every day seemed like Christmas Day in Moss Side in the Sixties. It's a world of D-cups and Cross-Your-Heart bras, sinking ferries on the Caribbean Sea, mangoes the size of footballs, and stampeding herds of cows through the middle of Princess Road. All this to an accompaniment of a Winter Wonderland 'Wall of Sound', Motown, Mozart, Mantovani and great big candy coated dollops of Top of the Pops. James' family are due to move to a brand new semi-detached house in predominantly white, and rather more sedate, Ashton-under-Lyne. But not before he's been on his adventures with Aunty Mary...An all-singing, all-dancing first novel from a unique new Black British voice.

Media Reviews
'Magically inventive... An affetionate evocation of growing up, told with perhaps a touch too much charm' Guardian 'Bright, joyous and full of energy... it is hard to convey adult themes through the dreamlike observances of a child but it is managed here in a witty and thoughtful way' The Times 'Charmingly evokes the spirit and naivete of the Sixties' Alive 'Joe Pemberton's first novel... has inspired comparisons with CATCHER IN THE RYE [and] TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, while the dreamlike quality of some of its fantasy scenes has led to comparisons with BILLY LIAR' (interview in City magazine)
