Hungary

Synopsis

This guide is divided into three parts. The first introduces Hungary's history, culture, geography and climate. The second is a region-by-region guide which sets the places of interest in their historical context. The third contains practical information and details of food, wine and leisure facilities. Although space is devoted to the most frequently visited parts of Hungary, such as Budapest, the Danube Bend and Lake Balaton, the lesser known areas are also described, such as the mountain ranges of the north with their folklore traditions, the hills of Tokaj where the famous wine is produced, the rolling landscapes of Southern Transdanubia, and the Great Plain and historic town of western Hungary.
