Gardening with Trees

Gardening with Trees

by SoniaKinahan (Author)

Synopsis

This book covers the range of trees that can be grown in the average-sized garden but the ideas and methods discussed can also be adapted for smaller plots. It examines the different types of trees available - eg freestanding, ornamental and flowering trees, fruit trees, weeping and standard trees. The author advises on the best methods of planting, with details on the best types of soil and positioning for the trees, pruning and their protection by the use of natural, not chemical, insecticides. She notes how hardy trees can be used as a barrier to shield more delicate young trees and plants from hostile weather conditions, so giving them a better chance of survival. Trees can be used to give special effects such as in tubs, arches, arbours, tunnels and pleached walks as well as creating areas of shade for relaxation.
