Joyride

Joyride

by Ehrlich Amy (Author)

Synopsis

Nina Lewis and her mother, Joyce, are always on the move. They own nothing that can't fit in the back of a van and they stay nowhere very long. Home is wherever they are, as long as they're together. But as Nina begins to long for a more settled life with proper friends - perhaps even a boyfriend - Joyce insists on moving at a more and more frantic pace, until it seems their lives will spiral out of control.

Media Reviews
Ehrlich's thriller is also about the mysteries of intimacy and family bonds. Nina tells the story in a candid, unpretentious voice, and the writing style is simple and accessible... Yet it expresses complex feelings and a precise sense of place. Booklist (starred review); Amy Ehrlich is a witch with words, and while you think you are reading one novel, you are actually reading another. The climax is startling and heart-wrenching, giving a meaning to the entire book that lingers long after that last piercing scene is read. Robert Cormier
Author Bio
Amy Ehrlich is a children's book editor and the award-winning author of more than thirty books for children and young adults. She wrote this book after moving from New York City to Vermont. She says, My son, who was in the sixth grade, had a hard time adjusting. He came home and told me about a new girl in his class who moved every year. It was just the girl and her mother. For some reason I couldn't stop thinking about her. Was she lonely? How did she make friends? Why did they keep moving? Then one morning I sat down and began to write Joyride. Amy Ehrlich is also the editor of The Walker Book of Fairy Tales, illustrated by Diane Goode. She lives with her family in Vermont, USA.
