Media Reviews
From my back porch, I can see where my best friend lives. Evette's tenant house sits on my daddy's property... but on account of her being black and me being white, she hardly ever comes in my house and I don't go in hers. My daddy says that's just the way it is.
Author Bio
Jonathon Scott Fuqua has written numerous stories, plays and articles and is an established artist, with a published collection of illustrations entitled American Rowhouse Classic Design. His debut novel, The Reappearance of Sam Webber, has received widespread acclaim in the US, winning numerous honours, including a prestigious Alex Award. The characters in Darby are based on a series of oral history interviews that Jonathon conducted in Marlboro County, South Carolina over a three-year period. I also constantly referenced the spontaneous and brilliant observations of my daughter, who sees cruelty and kindness with absolute clarity, he says. In the end, I hope that the book does justice to good people born in troubling times, some of whom, in small ways, helped lay the foundations for change and justice. Jonathon Scott Fuqua teaches writing and art in Baltimore, Maryland, where he lives with his wife and daughter.
